Getting your motorcycle "Properly" tuned

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

There's a big difference between laptop tuning and dyno tuning. Laptop tuning is downloading a base map into your ECM and setting all the target fuel cells to 14.6 AFR (air-fuel ratio) and letting your narrow band O2 sensors try to chase down the correct fuel settings. These type of tunes are typically done by shops that don't have a dyno, or don't know how to use it. YOUR MOTORCYCLE IS NOT TUNED. When we tune it properly, we hook up wide band, 18mm O2 sensors to your exhaust head pipes to read the AFR from each cylinder. We take the readings which are typically quite a ways off target and correct them to be on target. We do this throughout the complete fuel map for each cylinder. We also adjust your MAP(manifold absolute pressure) table to correct calibration. This is a very important yet bypassed step by many. The tuning process has just begun. Then we go through your timing maps and correct them so there isn't any harmful detonation(pinging) anywhere. Without going into too much detail, there are many other tables that are addressed as well. We get many motorcycles every year that are supposedly tuned when in reality they are not. We also provide a dyno sheet like the one shown in this blog to assure you we are on target. Shops without a dyno can not give you verification.

We do it the right way.
